FISHING IN THE AREA

 

Cleggan is an ideal as a center for angling of all types,for the beginner and expert alike. Seafishing is superb in the area with readily accessible shore marks and beaches,and Cleggan pier is a first class mark for flatfish, dogfish,mackerel and conger,(which have been taken up to 50lbs). Recently the giant bluefin tuna have been caught in the area by local charter boats"Western Kingfisher" and "Bluewater" the tuna pictured on this page is 708 lbs, This is arguably one of the largest fish of any type caught in Europe in 2002.

Salmon ,trout and seatrout fishing is plentiful in Connemara,there are may lakes within 15 minutes of Olivers Bar where one can enjoy the finest brown trout fishing, and within 30 minutes drive are the famous Kylemore, Ballynahinch and Erriff rivers,all first rate salmon fisheries.
